Camelback Mountain (Echo Canyon Trailhead)
4925 E. McDonald Dr., Phoenix, AZ
Camelback Mountain's main trailhead. The Echo Canyon Trail to the 2,704-foot summit is rated extremely difficult by the City: 1.14 miles and 1,400 ft of climb, very steep and rocky, with handrails in places and little shade; the easy 0.2-mile Bobby's Rock Trail branches off it. Restrooms, water and a small shade canopy at the trailhead. No dogs on any Camelback trail. In winter and spring the lot fills by late morning on weekdays and all day on weekends, and the gate closes when it's full (no waiting on McDonald Dr. or Tatum Blvd.). On Extreme Heat Warning days the City closes Echo Canyon Trail from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Outdoors: from May to September, go early morning or after sunset and bring plenty of water.
